NetLedger launches powerful, consolidated data center

San Mateo, Calif‐March 29, 2000—NetLedger, Inc., the gateway to e-commerce and world’s first provider of a Web-based accounting solution for millions of small businesses, today announced the launch of a new, consolidated Data Center with increased capacity, more power, enhanced scalability and superior reliability. The new Data Center establishes NetLedger as the largest Linux installation of Oracle worldwide. The Data Center’s platform is built on three breakthrough technologies: VA Linux Systems (Nasdaq: LNUX), Network Appliance™, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTAP), and Rainbow Technologies (Nasdaq: RNBO).

NetLedger selected industry-leading technologies to build the most secure and reliable infrastructure offered by any small business application service provider (ASP). Recognizing accounting as the core financial application of every online business, NetLedger is dedicated to delivering a Web-based accounting solution that will become the platform of choice for every entrepreneurial e-commerce effort. In addition to supporting current and future customer growth, as well as the company’s numerous distribution partnerships, the new Data Center is a milestone for NetLedger in the small business ASP industry.

“The new Data Center positions NetLedger to become the gateway for millions of small businesses as e-commerce continues to expand their ability to compete in today’s global marketplace” said Bill Mirbach, president and CEO of NetLedger, Inc.

“We now have improved scalability in our infrastructure to handle the tremendous traffic our business is attracting and retaining,” said Evan Goldberg, CTO of NetLedger, Inc. “The new Data Center provides 100 percent redundant capacity and has connectivity with 96 percent of the world’s networks, giving our customers and partners greater bandwidth and faster transaction rates.”

The New Data Center is Built on Three Breakthrough Technologies:

VA Linux

NetLedger selected VA Linux (Nasdaq: LNUX) to provide rackmount Linux servers and integration management services for the entire application server infrastructure, resulting in the world’s largest deployment of Oracle on Linux. VA Linux Professional Services provided NetLedger with additional expertise in resolving kernel and NFS issues as they arose, leveraging the Open Source community to facilitate rapid response times. “As a recognised leader in helping dot-coms build their businesses on Linux and Open Source, VA Linux is pleased to provide NetLedger with our systems, professional services and support for its ground-breaking ASP infrastructure,” said Robert Russo, general manager and senior vice president of worldwide operations, VA Linux Systems. “The design and scale of NetLedger’s new Data Center establishes NetLedger as a premier ASP for small businesses.”

Network Appliance

The second technology NetLedger selected for this massive undertaking is Network File System (NFS) from Network Appliance (Nasdaq: NTAP), a leading provider of network-attached data access and management solutions. Network Appliance manufactures high-performance multi-protocol file servers (or filers) and caching appliances for UNIX (NFS), Windows (CIFS) and Web (HTTP) environments. The new NetLedger Data Center is the largest production instance running NFS on Linux. Network Appliance NFS provides higher performance, higher scalability and greater fault tolerance.

Rainbow Technologies

The third partner NetLedger tapped is Rainbow Technologies (Nasdaq: RNBO), a leading provider of security solutions for the Internet and eCommerce. The new NetLedger Data Center uses Rainbow Technologies’ CryptoSwift, EN 1000 eCommerce accelerator that contains a public-key processor that off-loads and speeds up the secure operations that would otherwise saturate the Web server’s main processor. Running up to 1000 transactions per second and processing a 1024-bit RSA transaction in less than 5 milliseconds, CryptoSwift improves server response time by up to ten times and frees servers to perform accounting tasks.

“We are pleased with NetLedger’s decision to use CryptoSwift,” said Robert Shields, director of strategic marketing, Rainbow Technologies. “In processing accounting transactions, security and speed are critical features to NetLedger customers, which makes our technology solutions a perfect match.”
